It’s been a while

So, It’s been a while since I last posted here.

I’ve been mostly busy with work, as well as working on developing a game in Unity. Right now I am mainly focusing on getting used to Unity, but I am starting to get a good handle on it all. I still have a lot to go in terms of learning Unity. But all is going well. Right now my test Unity game is a simple 2D platformer. Since I cannot draw in any fashion, I decided on a simple look with crayons. I so far like the look of it. I still have a lot to go with this game, still working on the different scripts.

You can check out a preview gif of it here: http://simimage.com/f/gWpz.gif (10MB Gif warning)

My game: Space Defense Prototype

by Greg on April 13, 2013 at 2:37 pm

Recently for the last few weeks, I have started to make my own game. Well, at least a prototype of a game to get myself introduced to the concept. Right now I am making a standard “Tower Defense” type of game. It’s still in a prototype stage, but you can see it working nicely so far. Right now I am calling it “Space Defense”. It has some graphics and sound effects applied. Also have a pause and fast button coded already as well. I’ll have other features like Leaderbaords later on once I balance the game some more.

Check it out here: Space Defense

Wii U retail drought finally over

by Greg on March 25, 2013 at 8:00 pm

Although the Nintendo Wii U has had a fair selection of eShop titles these past few months, it’s been fairly empty on the retail front. That is until now. I recently bought Lego City Undercover, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, and Need for Speed Most Wanted U. Still waiting on Need for Speed, but the other 2 are excellent. Lego City alone will take most of my time to get 100%. The humor is really off the charts. Frank Honey is one of my favorite characters so far.

Also, because of the Origin sale online, I was able to get the latest Need for Speed for only $30. Pretty good deal.

Coaster Creator 3D

I recently noticed a Roller Coaster sim recently got released on the 3DS eShop for $9.99. I was hesitant to download it, but I am glad I have done so. The game edit menu can take a little bit to get used to, but the whole thing is quite fun.  You can do all sorts of fun thing to your roller coaster. Even gives you the ability to ride it with nice 3D visuals.

I’ll have a full review later on.

Should be a fun month

I see this month being excited for me, game wise. Off the top of my head I know I will be picking up Lego City Undercover, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and Need for Speed Most Wanted U all for Wii U. And that’s just off the top of my head. That’s not even counting any 3DS games or eShop games I might buy.

Currently Playing: Assassin’s Creed III (Wii U)

I recently started up Assassin’s Creed III for the Wii U. I actually bought this game near launch, I just haven’t gotten the chance to play it yet. But I am glad I started it, because I am enjoying what I’ve seen/played so far. I’m only 2 or so hours into the game, so I still have a lot left. I am also enjoying playing with the gamepad, leaving the entire TV screen to be free of any HUD items. Very nice clean picture without any of those items cluttering it up.

SNES Super Scope CIB

Mega Man X4 for Sega Saturn and Sonic 2 for Master System. Mega Man X4 really looks good

My Japanese version of Soul Blazer for the SNES came recently. Soul Blazer is one of my favorite games of all time. Also got a Nintendo cart cleaning kit. Thing really does wonders to clean old carts.

Major eBay Haul

In the last month and half I have been doing some serious buying of retro games. For the most part I have spent near $1500. Of course I have also sold off nearly $600 on eBay, so a decent amount of the stuff I have is from reselling other things. Since then, I finally have a Sega CD, an Atari 2600, and a Halo Xbox system. And that is really just the beginning. I now own several expensive Sega Saturn games, such as Albert Odyssey: Legend of Eldean and Mega Man X4 (this should come soon). I have finally ordered a 2nd batch of Media Universal Game cases. So that now makes 2o0. With them, I have also modified them to store NES games by melting the plastic down inside with a soldering iron.

You can see a picture of part of my collection here: (not the best quality picture)

escapeVektor Vita Review

by Greg on February 14, 2013 at 7:56 pm
Posted In: Playstation Vita, Reviews

A little over a month ago I had the pleasure of playing escapeVektor on the 3DS. If you have not already seen it, I gave it very high praise. When you boil the different elements down, escapeVektor is essentially a modern day Pac-Man with amazing music and addicting gameplay. But that was for the Nintendo 3DS version. Does the same hold true for the Playstation Vita version?

The game follows Vektor, who is trapped inside your Playstation Vita and is enslaved to do every bit of the CPU’s dirty work. With your help, he might just be able to unlock his past memories and escape the his prison  As you progress throughout the game, you finally learn how he got to where he is now and just how evil this CPU really is.

As I said before, this game is essentially a modern arcade style game of Pac-Man. To complete a level, you need to successfully go over all the unmarked lines while avoiding the different swarms of enemies sent to destroy you. As the game progresses, you will unlock new abilities as well get upgrades to your current abilities. Your main abilities include the ability to boost for a short period and the nice ability to destroy all around you. Eventually you unlock better boost abilities and a great storage to hold the boost and bomb abilities. Of course, you’re not the only one who get upgraded. Along with the levels eventually throwing tricks in your path, the enemies also start to become upgraded with some chasing you instead of their usual set paths as well others that will undo any of your marked lines. All together, this makes for one awesome and at times insane arcade like game setting. If that wasn’t enough, beyond the four chapters filled with a lot of levels comes a huge amount of extra bonus worlds and online leaderboards.

The game has a simplistic look going for it, and that is a good thing. Where the 3DS used the 3D effect to help make the game look amazing, the Vita version benefits by the beautiful OLED screen. The game looks truly stunning on the Vita. While the 3DS used the bottom screen to show you what is below you, Vita gives you the use of gyroscope sensors to allow you to look around the level. This becomes very handy as you try to quickly turn corners. Not only does the game look amazing, but it also sounds amazing. The music specifically is one of it’s best features. The grooving music really makes each stage addictive and really makes you want to continue on to the next level instead of calling it quits for the day. Overall, this game not only plays great, it also looks and sounds great.

In the end, I really recommend this game to everyone. Like the 3DS version, this game is a lot of fun and has plenty of content to last you for a long while. Being an arcade game in general will also help to prolong the experience. If you haven’t done so already, be sure to pick up escapeVektor on the Playstation Vita immediately.

Rating: 10/10
